WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS TO DO:
The world can help solve the issue of space junk by developing and deploying technologies to remove existing debris, implementing policies that require satellites to be de-orbited at their end of life, designing spacecraft to minimize future debris, and fostering international cooperation through treaties and guidelines

Australia's Role in Space Sustainability
The planet faces several unique challenges with space junk because unlike pollution on Earth, debris in orbit can’t simply be cleaned up with trucks or bins as it’s moving at incredible speeds and circling the planet endlessly. Even a tiny fragment can smash into satellites or spacecraft, creating more debris in a dangerous chain reaction called the Kessler Syndrome.
Start the conversation
The one thing I’d like every visitor to do after reading this page is to spread awareness and start conversations about space junk—tell a friend, a classmate, or even post online about why it matters. The more people know, the more pressure there will be on space agencies, governments, and companies to act responsibly and support new cleanup technologies.
